Having just seen the videos if I had the Money I would buy one just for the safety issue alone.

What suprised me was in the frontal impact the dash hardly moved and even with the pole test you had that felling you would be ok with just a few aches and pains afterwards

Very impressed with what Fard have done to the MK3 to ensure we should get out of it alive no matter what.

I've just added the MK1 test videos too - the difference in technology and safety equipment over 10 years is amazing! Is £30k justified for the new Gal? Looking at the videos, definitely!

Just seen the Mk1 video  Paul
If you ask me what I think bloody scary that what  even more so as i own a MK1.
As you say worth every penny for that peace of mind.

If I was a father with my wife and 3 kids in my Mk 3 I would be happy sitting behind the wheel knowing if some other pillock on the road went head on into me me the wife and the kids will be ok as ford has done a bloody good job in protecting us.

Seeing these NCAP results last year was one of the main reasons why I changed to a MK3 Galaxy.

The commentary for the MK1/MK2 didn't reassure me very much at all especially reading words like "structurally unstable" and "badly damaged".  Only a few days earlier there had been a fatal accident on a motorway near me which once again reminded me of our own mortality.

I'll soon be carrying 3 kids around in the back of my Galaxy so I decided just to make the switch.

I had always assumed being an MPV that driver and passenger safety would be spot on but it just goes to show how they get on in these crash tests.

Just glad I don't own a Chrysler Voyager.  Have an accident in one of those and your as good as gone !!!

Is the MK2 virtually the same as the MK1 as far as these tests are concerned?

In three years time the MK3 will be offordable secondhand so we'll just have to wait.

MK1 will fair slightly worse than the MK2 in these tests as it only has driver and passenger airbags, not the side ones.

I saw an 06 MK3 1.8 TDCi Zetec on ebay classifieds yesterday for £13,995 Shocked It had very high milage (62k) but was company owned and were motorway miles.

My problem with the MK3 is the floor though.  With the seats folding down into the floor it's nowhere near as flat and even and getting our powerchairs in and out is very much more difficult.  You'll see what I mean on May 18th.

Malky that is an interesting point on the powerchairs, as my Mother-in-law (bless her) has one, at the moment they have a Kia Sedona which has loads of room, and it fits in our Galaxy (mk2) albiet a tighter fit. They are considering a disability car and going for the MK3 Galaxy, which might judging by what you said cause a problem.

Have you tried the chair in a mk3?

Any info greatfully received on this.  Wink

Cheers

No I didn't actually try it in as it was a brand new one at the mobility roadshow but the floor looked and felt very bumpy.  Having just bought my MK2 2.8 I was happy to think that it would last me many years for little money, until I saw the NCAP footage.
When we had only one chair, we had a focus estate which was very satisfactory and being lower it was easier to get the chair up and down the ramps.  If you will be at the fiesta in the park I can demonstrate this.  Otherwise, when I get my gallery up and going,  I will have pictures of how we cope in the Galaxy with its higher floor.

Camping with the Gal on holiday 2009

« Reply #15 on: April 18, 2008, 07:18:01 AM »

The mk3 does, as you'd expect, totally outperform the mk1 / 2 models. My mk2 is loaded with airbags but in a massive impact with a solid object would crumple quite a lot....not good. The thing to remember with these NCAP tests is that the cars are rammed into solid, stationary objects etc. On the road if I hit another car, 9 times out of 10 my big heavy Gal will come out better than other cars that are a lot lighter & smaller and may well have great, modern safety equipment with 5 star ratings. I'm not panicking that my mk2 is a "death trap" or something. Would love the mk3 though....maybe in 3-4 years, dream on!
