I would suggest a service too mate

I regularly use the M3 and M25  and on both I get 30MPG with both the cruise and air con on and mine is supposedly a thirsty 2.8  Huh?

Yes a good service should help a bit, mine didn't help with a set of loose spark plugs, still haven't hit 30mpg yet though no matter how easy I go on the throttle.

Do not use the clutch too much.
Switch the vehicle off at red light stops.
Drive in gear corresponding to the speed.
Get your vehicle serviced regularly.
A poorly tuned engine can increase fuel consumption by up to 50%
Driving at 90 kilometers an hour rather than 100 can reduce fuel consumption by 10%
Under inflated tires can increase fuel consumption by 5%
A loaded roof rack will increase fuel consumption by as much as 5% in highway driving.
Even an empty roof rack can increase consumption by 1%. If the carrier is not attached to the vehicle, remove it when not in use.
Avoid "Jack Rabbit" starts, not only do they increase fuel consumption, but are hard on your tires. Anticipating stops and avoiding abrupt stops will decrease fuel consumption and increase the life of your brakes and tires.
Avoid unnecessary steering wheel movement since each sideward movement of the tire causes fuel-consuming drag.
Maintain a steady speed.
Accelerate slowly on gravel or slippery roads.
Avoid unnecessary braking.
Reviving the engine just before turning off the ignition costs extra fuel and may cause engine damage.
Take advantage of rolling resistance rather than heavy braking to help slow you down. This deceleration technique is one of the best for fuel saving.
Avoid using the air conditioner at lower speeds.
Changing spark plugs regularly can save a lot.
pretend you have broken down and ring the rac for a free tow home.
get the wife and kids to push.

I Agree!    with everything you say.

On the subject of tyre pressures; one way of ensuring that they are always OK is to fit tyre pressure monitors.  The ones that I have come in 2psi increments and screw on the ends of the valves.  They are green when the pressure is OK, yellow if it drops 4psi and red if it drops by 8psi.  They are available from:   https://www.tpm-automotive.com/aircheckers1.asp  and I can thoroughly recommend them.

Just tried a few of these tips on the random drive to eastbourne and back tonight.

Its all very well until the IDIOT in front want to vary speeds hugely (esp as gals pick up speed down hills even in high gears!) and the way numpties round here start braking for roundabouts before the 300m boards Grrrrrrrrrrr

Still, Gave her an italian tune up and was getting 25.8mpg ROFL
