M90 just past the Forth Bridge going towards Dundee. only doing about 65. Car swerved to the left (still no idea why or how) which normally I'd have been able to control and stop, but it did it just at the point where an HGV was parked on the hard shoulder. I managed to veer right so that I missed a head on smash into the back of the trailer, but the back corner collided. Car spun round, flipped a couple of times and ended up skidding down the centre of the motorway on its roof for a couple of hundred metres. I had 2 kids (8 & 9 then) in the back. My 9 year old son was sat next to the near side rear window and took the blast of the glass smashing in the face. My son managed to crawl out of the rear window with the help of some other very kind motorists that had by now stopped, but then crawled back in the car to free his sister and help her out of the same window. I couldn't free my seatbelt so had to wait for the other motorists to pull my door open and help me out.

As well as the obvious shock we were in, we managed to escape pretty much unhurt. I had glass in my hair and scalp from the windscreen as we slid along on the roof, my daughter had a couple of cuts on her hands where she had protected her face from the glass, and my brave son had glass embedded in his ear, small cuts to his face and glass fragments in his eye. The driver of the truck I'd hit luckily had an eye wash kit in his cab so we managed to clean my sons eye out before the paramedics got on the scene.

Thankfully everyone is fine now, except that I'm a more precarious driver and still feel a little uneasy when passing HGVs on the motorway - especially when they are driving so close to other cars. Also made me appreciate life a little more as the police were amazed we had survived. If I'd have gone head on into the back of the trailer, wel it doesn't bear thinking about.

A couple of months after I crashed, a school bus did practically the same thing at the same place on the same motorway (but southbound) - again, thankfully, the kids and teachers managed to get out with minor injuries! BBC Website report

I think the scariest thing though is that I've just checked with the DVLA and the car pictured above hasn't been scrapped - it's still on a SORN, but could, I imagine be repaired at some point and put back on the road Shocked

Thumbs Up          well, Apart from hire cars     Yes, but you still have to fork out for the fuel.

Sorry if this seems a bit out of context but I was replying to Tiggerz post without realising how many posts there had been in between.

If things keep going on in this thread at this rate do you think we might break some sort of record?

Rochford are driving me nuts.    AARRGGHH        No wheels until Wednesday now.

At least your here to tell the tale! Glad you and the kids are all right!

It could have been a random gust of wind or even a section of road that sank a little.

Atleast all the following cars were alert enough to stop/avoid the car and all.

Must have properly fooked with your head though!

I thought doing this was the end of the world! (80 mph into a crash barrier (after a new wheel and pulling the wing out enough to get a indicator in)

The wheel had a right angle in it. Caught it as a glancing blow! the kerb killed most the energy, Against my wheel and lower wishbone!
