Post by: straven8 on April 19, 2008, 06:38:54 PM
Can anybody help ? The FORD badge on the rear boot lid of my 04 Ghia has discoloured, and I would like to relace it. Anybody any idea of the cost of a new one and is it fairly easy to fit ? Iam not sure if its stuck on or What ! Appreciate any help with this Thanks in anticipation...Straven8

 :welcome:

there is two ways to get this badge off,
1. hot water
2. hair dryer (slower but safer)  :rasp:

then while still warm, use a piece of strimmer wire (or similar) to prise the badge of.

then use white spirit or meths to get rid of sticky residue,

the new badge should come with sticky foam, just peel of backing and stick in place.

a little tip here, slightly wet the sticky foam so the badge is movable for final adjustment

hope that helps

ive just took mine off the mk 1 cus i prefer the stealth look (no badge) and to my horror, two bloody drill holes !!!
so, gonna get a v6 badge to cover em up.

I just ripped mine off the MkII when I changed its badges! The new ones were a tenner each. Not too bad I thought.

Just a tip for anyone interested. If you take the badge off and use fine grit ( wet / dry ) sandpaper with plenty of water to remove the blue, you can respray them any colour you want. I done my ford badges red for the transit.

That takes me back! I did my badges black on my first car in 1985. It was a Mk3 Escort and I thought it was the bees knees! I had them every colour after that including day-glo green! Hideous!

I found some on the net that I posted ages ago , but it seems they arent available any longer.

I know the original ones were made in the US but were discontinued because of legality reasons . Most US States dont allow blue lights showing on civilian vehicles and it seems this caused their demise . The same company still makes the Chevy bow tie logo and the Dodge ram logo , but these light up white so are legal.

I was talking to my buddy in Ohio last night and he is going to contact a few truck accesory retailers over there to see if they are still available....fingers crossed.

The only bad thing about these light up badges is that as soon as ANY moisture gets into them , they just stop working . I had oner on my Granada and one on my first Galaxy zetec that did this , so they could definately use some extra sealing if we can get them .

You wouldn't have them on ten minutes until Plod would have you pulled. Only emergency vehicles can show blue light.

Thats possible but not strictly true.

I can say that , in all the time I had them on both my Granada and my Galaxy , I never had any interest from the old bill regarding the badges .

You pays your money and takes your chances as they say  ;)
