Has anybody done any engine mods to their Galaxy? I was thinkin of a K & N filter and a custom sports exhaust. Will it be worth it and will I gain much on my 2.8?

Ive got a K&N panel filter in my 1996 2.8 Ghia and used to have a Sebring Twin pipe rear box on it  which made absolutely no noticeable difference to the way it performed or the way it sounded .

I will be adding an induction kit to my 2.3 in the future along with a Projektzwo exhaust  and Im hoping these will make it sound a little sportier if nothing else .

As far as I know , noone does a full exhaust for the Galaxy , so unless you  go to a specialist who can make a system for your car , you are gonna have to make do with a rear silencer , which are pretty expensive .

2.8 lump is basically the same as is fitted to the VR6 Corrado and Golf, so there should be plenty of mods around for it. I'd personally steer clear of a k&n filter (even a whole cold air induction kit) as the oil residue on the filter is pulled through the air intake and clogs the Mass Air Flow meter causing it to deteriorate quicker than it should. I'd plumb for a http://www.greenfilters.com/ one instead.

A rear sports backbox alone won't really improve performance that much, but a catback system will help and obviously a full manifold back performance exhaust will be the best option performance wise. As for what's out there .... well not that much to be honest! lots of it is from Germany (from the strong VW links) but performance mods for the Galaxy can be found if you trawl the net long enough! Projektzwo are big in VW Sharan mods which fit the Galaxy (http://www.projektzwo.de/artikel/fzg.php?marke=14&gruppe=tk&fzg_id=241) and Wolf motorsport too who are UK based. (we also get a club discount with them - check out the members deals and discounts section for more info!)

If things go to plan on my 2.0l galaxy, the mods will be almost endless. ok it wont be to cheap some of the performace uprades etc, but i know the engines well being escort based, so know what can be done and what sort of power you can get.

Basicly im looking into,

2.3 bottom end
rs2000 head
rs2000 ecu. or after market ECU
Chipped
Cams
Filter
Custom exhuast from local place (performance one, not a show one like longlife and powerflow)

then you can think about throttle bodys or turbo.

like i said with the i4 engine, the modding is endless, and all has been done before so nice and easy to do.

Anyway, its only at the mo on paper and nothing has been done yet, but have a engine lined up for it when the times right.

I can imagine!!!

I get that about it being a people carrier "You're meant to have grown up by now ..." etc. But why not! I have to have the Galaxy as I have 4 kids - no reason I shouldn't make the ownership as enjoyable as possible by making it my own!
And hence the Official Ford Galaxy Owners Club was created LMAO

hi people, don't won't to pee on your fire but the 2.0l galaxy has the old sierra lump i.e last of the line sierra gt, which is a twin cam 8v the i4 lump is the 2.3 confused! when i bought my galaxy 2.3 zetec i thought it was a zetec but it ain't it's the i4 lump this engine was used in some Mazda's.

the Mk5 rs2000 boys use the 2.3 bottom end because it is stronger and was developed by cosworth.

hope this helps

The 2.0L in the galaxy, and scorpio and sierras, was indeed a 8v, but it is identical to the I4 RS2000 or 2.3 engine, the only diffence is basicly the number of valves. A RS2000 16v head should bolt straight onto the 8v 2.0l bottom end. The only problem is the RS2k bottom end has strong crank and bearings etc. But apart from that the blocks prity much the same.
As you said about the zetec, The zetec stops at 2.0l and as far as im aware has never even been found in a galaxy. Well my parts doesn`t list it thats for sure.

As for I4 engine, no idea what it stands for TBH. CVH stands for Compact valve something  Laugh i think.

Anyway, an rs2k i4 16v engine should bolt straigh in no problems at all apart from the electric side of it, but that wont be to hard being an electrician  Laugh
