That little buld is for lighting  the hot and cold buttons.
For some strange reason they did not use SMD's for these two buttons but a very small twist lock  bulb instead (it is only about a 1/4 inch high) and mine had blown
I could not find a replacement for it anywhere, not even the dealers so I popped into Maplins (again) and bought this little bugger
Little Bulb
to replace it with. It does the job just fine, all I did was cut the wires down and soldered it to the original bulbs contacts.

Paul
I'am not sure its a 286 bulb it looks a lot smaller than that, see pic of the original bulb

Have you done the blue LED conversion for your headlight switch yet, if so how did you get rid of the green for the lighting symbols as they are coloured green from the back of the front cover and the green is not easily accessible.  Huh?

I think you should have the same light control panel as me, the pic below is similar to mine (mine has the 2 fog lights, I borrowed this pic from e-bay  Grin)

ah yes, certainly shorter than a 286 Undecided I haven't tackled any other lighting on the dash yet. I'll probably see if I can get my Dremmel into the back of the headlight switch and sand/grind off the green like I did with the centre panel on the dash for the indicators Wink Always comes in handy with a long reach thin attachment

Dremmels won't reach the green on the headlight switch, I found out the hard way  AARRGGHH

I have tried everything to get to the 'green' without any success, I even ended up destroying my original light switch.

On the replacement I got I haven't tried changing the green yet all I have done is changed the green LED which lights just the  main on/off switch to blue and left the symbols green, for now anyway as I will not be beaten  Grin

Yep it's glued on, the problem is when you peel it off it takes the black backing paint off it as well  Angry

Have re-done my clocks illumination as the blue LED back lighting was a bit "too much" (did I really say that!?) So have gone back to the white back lights and used a blue filter on the LCD displays. Reckon it looks much better - and I've got the red needles and other red bits back on the dials as I lost the red when using blue LEDs.
