Been looking at some window tinting and been quoted £235 for to have the 5 rear windows tinted to whatever i like from medium tint to privacy tint.

Is that a decent price?

Windscreen must let 75% of visible light through and all other glass surfaces forward of the B Pillar must let more than 70% of visible light through or it's illegal.  It's not illegal to apply tint to these windows, but, due to the original glass already having a slight tint and non tinted glass only letting in around 85% of visible light anyway, chances are any extra tint applied will reduce incoming visible light to below legal limits.

I;'m a member of a local Cruise site (my mate runs it so i join int he chat every now and again) they have a CLO (cruise liasion officer) from the local Police force who comes on and answers questions - when asked about window tinting he said this -

"The Road Vehicles Construction and Use Regulations 1986 specify the minimum amount of light that must pass through the windscreen and front side windows, these are

Motor Vehicles first used before 1/4/1985
Windscreen and front side windows must allow at least 70% of light to be transmitted through them.

MV first used on or after 1/4/1985
Windscreen 75%
Front side windows 70%.

Where people make the mistake is that they fail to allow for the tint that is already normally on a vehicle at manufacture, ie most cars today that have factory tint fall into near enough the maximum permissable transparency.
If a person adds a 20% tint then the combined effect would take it over the limit.

The underlying issue is road safety and the view available to the road by the driver.

A reputable company should advise correctly and be able to measure the total transparency.

If the tinting was severe then you could find youre vehicle being issued with a Prohibition Notice and the possibilty of being reported to the courts."

Still looking at this, quotes seem to mostly be around the £250 mark with £200+VAt being the cheapest i can get at the moment and £445 + VAT being the highest (all for a tint from B Pillar back)

Hi All,Just had my gal tinted,it cost £250 and well worth the money. It makes a stunning change to the vehicle.I had b piller backwards in dark tint and the driver/passenger/2 x 1/4 windows done in light smoke.Well pleased with the job.It took them 6 hours to complete.I tried window tinters all over the country, some where cheeper, but taking into account traveling/fuel,and having to hang around somewhere i didn't know, and some where out in the sticks,i thing i had a good deal.Cheers BoB
