HI all, ive just been browsing good old ebay and was having a look at the angel eyes for sale.
Has anyone ever tried the clip on type  ring that goes in the original headlight.
They are cheap enought at about  £15 ish  but are they more trouble than their worth.
I take it they just wire into the side lights.
I just thought that they would look cool in the Ally as all four units are the same size.
Thats another thing, i don't suppose anyone knows what size i would need. Its a bit difficult to measure without taking the unit apart and I'm not doing that until i know its worth it

Hi, Fordpwr has tried this method and posted an FAQ HERE

Looks a bit tricky to me, but certainly do-able Wink

Simon

It can be done with the Morettes , (Im hoping to do mine) , but its not a simple job .

The morette units are sealed Hella units  which will need to be opened up by removing the factory bonding , fitting the angel eye ring , then bonding the lens back onto the backing unit ensuring you get a totally watertight seal .

If you are unlucky enough to break one of the morette lenses  , it will cost you £95 for a new light unit as the lenses are not available seperately .

Don't any of the BMW E30/E36/E34/E39 individual angel eye light units slot in in place of the hella lamps? I'm sure retro fitting these (including fabircating a bracket if the mounting positions were different) would be an easier and better looking alternative! The BMW OEM lights are Hella units too, so I'm sure if you contacted Hella direct they'd be able to assist

As you know , I was looking into this last year but couldnt determine whether or not the BMW units would fit or not .
I contacted Hella who told me the Morette units are the same as some BMW units but thats as far as I got.
Apparantly , the Hella units that Morette use are a type of universal unit , as Ive also seen them on Optare coaches .

Looking on Ebay at some angeleyes for BMWs it looks like the E30 / E32 and E34 angeleyes are a close match and I reckon they could be tweaked to fit into my Morette backing plates.
As I say , there are no definite answers , so I guess its a "suck it and see situation" , so with that in mind , I have volunteered myself to be the Guinea pig for this mod as Ive just bought a set of BMW E34 Angeleyes in order to have a go at modifying them to fit into the Morette housings.

Not cheap at £155 , but its the only way Im going to know for sure . Fingers crossed Wink

Well , heres the update......and its not good news AARRGGHH

The BMW Angeleyes arrived today so I got straight on with the job of taking my Morettes apart to try and swap the light units over.
Unfortunately the BMW units are too big . The lights in my Morettes measure 4.75 inches in diameter , and the BMW lights are 5.5 inches in diameter. I know it doesnt sound much , but believe me , when put side by side , its quite a difference .

The Angeleyes could be made to mount onto the Morette backing plates with a few extra home made brackets as the mounting points are very similar , but to get the painted plastic outer cover on would mean enlarging the diameter of the hole in the housing .
After just having them painted Im reluctant to start hacking into them as I dont think there is enough material on the covers that can be removed without wrecking them completely , so until I can find some smaller diameter light units , Im afraid the Angeleyes conversion is on hold .

Its a shame too because the BMW units look fantastic.

Does the Alhambra have the same shape bonnet as the Sharan? i.e. straight across the top of the headlights. If so would the VW lights lights be any different?

The Mk1 Alhambra and Sharan both use the same lights and bonnets Tony.....only the Galaxy is different

Im sure the Mk2 is the same in that the front panels of the cars are the same but the Galaxy has its own look with different lights , wings and bonnet

It's a pity that Gary
If like me I bet you won't let it beat you though Angry

Will a fibreglass work shop be able to modify the plastic surrounds  Huh?
As you say there is not much room for improvement on them as they are  but I am sure they could come up with something.

Are the E30 3-series lights any smaller Gary? Pretty sure that the grill area is smaller, so the lights may be different?

Paul , the E30 / E32 / E34s all use the same size headlights....the ones that came were listed for them all.

I havent given up hope yet though .

With the help of some members from the SGAF in Germany , I have managed to track down the guy who owns this Galaxy which already has Angeleyes fitted in his Morettes , so I have sent him an email (Babel fish is my friend lol) in the hope of finding out how he converted his .
